| How does
acupuncture work?
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is an approach to health that looks
to achieve internal equilibrium of the body's energy, known as Qi, and
balance of Yin and Yang, which are equal and opposite qualities of Qi.
This is achieved by the insertion of fine needles into the meridians
(channels) that the acupuncturist can use to stimulate the body's own
healing response. See acupuncture
for more details.
What conditions can be treated?
Acupuncture can help to treat a variety of specific aliments, however
many people with no specific symptoms use acupuncture to maintain health,
promote well being, and to reduce the stress caused by day to day life.
Having acupuncture treatments on a regular basis can help to prevent
to onset of illness, and thus increase quality of life. See application
for more details.
Which governing body are you registered with?
I am on the British Register of Complementary Practitioners (BRCP),
which is administrated by the Institute
for Complementary Medicine (ICM).
What happens at an acupuncture treatment?
At the initial consultation we will discuss your health situation and
associated concerns and l will ask you related questions to get an overall
view of your health. I will make a TCM diagnosis and formulate a treatment
plan. At this point we can discuss how many treatments you may be need.
You will be able to ask questions about your treatment and to voice
any concerns you may have.
How long does an acupuncture treatment take?
The initial consultation takes approximately 1 hour and following treatments
45-50 minutes.
Is acupuncture safe?
Yes. I always use disposable needles and follow the health and safety
guidelines set out by the Local Health & Safety Authority.
How will I feel after an acupuncture treatment?
After acupuncture treatments, people often speak of feeling calmer and
more together. It can be a very relaxing experience and some patients
have talked of acupuncture as ‘an antidote’ to the stresses
of modern living.
